Cruise West

When the West family, the founders and owners of Cruise West, began offering unique and personal travel experiences more than 50 years ago in Alaska, a philosophy prevailed that remains true to this day: to provide up-close travel that focuses on the destination—its scenery, wildlife, natural history and culture—all in the company of limited numbers of like-minded travelers.

Today Cruise West offers a vast array of Alaska cruise choices—from 4-day to 25-day journeys, from routes along the Inside Passage to destinations on the Bering Sea. With its fleet of 11 small ships, boasting capacities ranging from 78 to 148 passengers, the company now offers itineraries to many more exciting destinations as well. They include California Wine Country (fall); Mexico’s Sea of Cortez (winter); Japan (spring and fall); South Pacific (winter); Vietnam (fall); Costa Rica/Panama Canal (winter and spring); Galapagos Islands (varies); European river cruises (summer and fall); and the Columbia and Snake rivers in the Pacific Northwest (spring and fall). Prices for the 3- to 28-day voyages vary by ship, itinerary and destination.

In many of the remote waterways visited by Cruise West, small ships are the only way to explore the area. In every destination, at least one shore excursion or highlight is included in each port of call—such as kayaking off a wilderness island in Mexico or hiking in the rain forest in Alaska. The casual style onboard the line’s vessels encourages relaxation and congenial interaction between guests and crew alike. And the experience is personally enriching, including on-board narrative and lectures, special local guests from a wide variety of backgrounds, and a library provided on each vessel.
